Baber Mahal Vilas is a boutique property set within a quiet residential area of Kathmandu with 33 well-appointed rooms each unique in design (Newari, Mustang, Torai and Victorian styles are on show) and traditionally furnished.

Facilities include a rooftop pool, spa, restaurant and cafe, gym, and library. The hotel is attached to Baber Mahal Revisited, a charming complex of neo-classical ‘Rana’ palace buildings that have been lovingly restored to house several chic shops, galleries, restaurants, and bars.

OUR OPINION:

The hotel opens a window to the history of Nepal with several original photographs, paintings, and sculptures that adorn its walls. It’s a destination in itself with a labyrinth of boutique shops and dining options, all within a few steps.

The property’s 33 rooms are spacious with architectural styles native to Nepal – Rana Durbar, Newari, Mustang and Terai. Each room has a private bathroom and is equipped with Wi-Fi and TV.

Location

A 20-minute drive from the Tribhuvan International Airport and 15 minutes from the sights of Thamel, Baber Mahal Vilas in contrast to the usual hustle and bustle of Kathmandu, is a charming hotel in a quiet residential area.

Food and drink

Meals are served at Jyunar, an all-day dining area that is known for its authentic Nepalese menu. There is a quaint bar as well that serves a collection of drinks and snacks. Meals, drinks, or both can be enjoyed near the rooftop pool.

Facilities and activities

Due to its central location, it’s a great base from where you can explore the sights at Kathmandu. After a long day of exploration, if you are looking for relaxation, there’s a library with a vast collection of historical and cultural books. Although the rooftop swimming pool is not big, it’s great for taking leisurely dips in the afternoon.
