A historic building surrounded by modern skyscrapers, Hotel New York offers maritime style in a convenient waterfront location. Formerly the office building for the cruise-ship company Holland America Line, the hotel has stayed true to its nautical roots with details like the concierge’s ship captain’s garb, maritime photos on the walls and leather steamer trunks turned into furniture.
Flanked on either side by modern glass-and-steel skyscrapers, the brick building stands out, with a zig-zag roofline and two towers with patinated domes on top. Inside, the communal areas are a lively space for you to enjoy comfy leather sofas, plush armchairs and a coffee bar. On one side of the lobby is the large restaurant and café, and beneath that is the NY Basement bar and restaurant.
There are 72 rooms and suites, all in different shapes and sizes due to the historic nature of the hotel. All rooms, however, remain true to the nautical theme throughout.
We like this historic hotel’s location in the modern, evolving part of Rotterdam. Its original architectural design provides a stark contrast to the surrounding contemporary buildings, and we love the ode to its maritime past in its interior decor.

Rooms
The maritime theme continues into the 72 rooms and suites, all of which are unique in shape and decor. The room numbers are marked with nautical flags, while some rooms have lights in them that are replicas of the ones used to send signals from ships. There are three main categories of rooms, the Waterfront rooms, Tower rooms and Suites. The views vary from room to room, as some look onto the water, some onto the street and others onto the hotel’s courtyard.
All the rooms feature air conditioning, Wi-Fi and en suite bathrooms.
