Fable Auckland

Fable Auckland

Auckland, New Zealand

Set in what was Auckland’s first skyscraper, Fable Auckland oozes style and sophistication thanks to a recent refurbishment. The Art Deco building dates from 1927 and sits in the heart of Auckland’s shopping district and close to Waitematā Harbour.

Inside the narrow building, a sleek hall gives way to a large reception area, hung with a giant chandelier and staffed by effortlessly efficient but consistently discreet staff. Across the property, the balance between heritage styling and modern design and comfort is seamlessly upheld, the marble and parquet floors, velvet upholstery and gilt mirrors matched by the latest technology and food and drink concepts that champion organic ingredients and sustainability.

The rooms range in size but the design is consistently stylish with muted velvets, feature chairs and wallpapers, and large, glitzy bathrooms adding an air of refined sophistication.

The restaurant and bar continue the plush Art Deco theme and a new gym and spa complete the sense of refined indulgence.

OUR OPINION:

A haven of classic style and genuine service that will transport you from the hustle and bustle of downtown Auckland to a world of personalized elegance.

Rooms

Classically elegant yet contemporary in style, the hotel’s rooms are decorated in a palette of soft grays, with dashes of deep purple or teal in headboards, cushions and armchairs. Expect the finest linens, bone china and plush velvets alongside large TVs, Bluetooth speakers and Nespresso machines. The bathrooms are spacious and bright, lined with marble and golden mosaics. Little touches such as the range of organic teas and chocolates at turndown show the attention to detail, while free high-speed Wi-Fi and Sky TV bring amenities bang up to date.

Location

The hotel is set in the heart of Auckland’s shopping district, flanked by renowned couturiers and close to restaurants and bars, as well as the waterfront. The Auckland Art Gallery and the Sky Tower can be reached in ten minutes on foot, while the Downtown Ferry Terminal is just a five-minute walk away.

Food and drink

Named after the original restaurant on the site in 1928, and decorated in plush Art Deco style, Cooke’s has a focus on organic wholefoods and sustainability and a menu that is designed so that dishes can be shared by the whole table. Choose from modern takes on classic dishes or signature creations by chef Jinu Abraham. For breakfast, the choice is equally wide ranging, taking in all the expected classics as well as Asian-inspired dishes.
