Japan Specialist

I’ve always had a drive to explore new areas of the globe. Whether living with a family in Italy, running a beach bungalow in Mui Ne, Vietnam, teaching English in South Korea, or hiking the Nakasendo Highway in Japan, travel has always been my soul food.

I feel so lucky to have been part of the Audley family since 2017 with my prior focus primarily on Southeast Asia. I now exclusively work on designing once-in-a-lifetime trips through Japan to experience this incredible culture in an authentic, immersive, and exciting way.

From hunting the best ramen in Tokyo, marveling at breathtaking views of Mt Fuji, learning about the various beautiful, culturally unique crafts, as well as snowboarding in the Niigata Prefecture, Japan truly has something for everyone and one of the most fascinating places I’ve ever explored.

Q&A with Rachel

Delicious 'okonomiyaki' pancake

What’s the best local dish you’ve tasted?

Okonomiyaki is one of my most favorite dishes of Japan, specifically the version to Hiroshima. It’s a noodle pancake loaded with meat, shrimp, egg and drenched in savory sauce.

Hakone National Park and Mt Fuji, Japan

What’s your most vivid travel moment?

One of my most vivid travel moments is seeing Mt Fuji for the first time. I got off the bus to look up, and this magnificent landmark took my breath away. I couldn’t stop staring at it and in every turn would look over to see it in a new light. Getting to my ryokan in Kawaguchiko to enjoy the hot onsen on a cold winter January day, staring at this marvel for hours, was something I’ll never forget.

Winter in Asahidake

Where would you love to travel next?

The next place I’m dying to explore is Hokkaido, in Japan, in the winter. Hokkaido is known for incredible food and unbelievable mountain conditions to ski and snowboard. The ryokan and onsen experience on this brisk, beautiful island after a day on the slopes is on the top of my list!
