Reine Rorbuer

Reine Rorbuer

The Lofoten Islands, Norway

In the heart of the village of Reine, this hotel offers a stay in a snug traditional fishing cabin in the southern reaches of the Lofoten Archipelago. The red-and-white rorbuer (cabins) stand at the edge of Reinefjord in the most remote section of the islands. Despite this, the nearby village makes it a lively option amid the bleak beauty of the Arctic Circle.

The cabins are painted a traditional red with white trim, while the interiors are primarily warm wood with comfortably rustic furniture, featuring antique fishing equipment, as well as fully equipped kitchens. Many stand over the dark water on stilts and offer a sea view.

Restaurant Gammelbua serves a seasonal menu for all three meals, with a focus on local ingredients and traditional dishes, though you’ll also find international options. The restaurant is in a well-preserved 18th-century building with an original fireplace and ocean views.

OUR OPINION:

We love the classic feel of Reine Rorbuer, as well as the lively atmosphere of authentic Norwegian fishing life thanks to the thriving village nearby. This is the most far-flung of the rorbuer stays in the Lofoten Islands and we love the feeling of standing on the edge of the world here.
