Fjord safari & hike

Explore the heart of Norway’s fjordland in an open Zodiac boat, taking in small villages, steep, mist-wreathed mountains and waterfalls as you go. Suitable for families, this peaceful five-hour tour takes you on a journey through Aurlandsfjord and Nærøyfjord, as well as giving you a chance to hike through hills to a traditional mountain farm. Here, you’ll learn about the heritage of traditional goat’s cheese production and indulge in a tasting, before sitting down to enjoy a lunch of homemade local produce with sweeping views across the fjord.

You’ll be accompanied by a private local guide throughout the day who’ll provide insight into this region of Norway, from its spectacular geology to its history and culture, sharing stories passed on through generations of local families.

Your private guide will meet you in Flåm and accompany you to your Zodiac boat, before you glide out across the dark-blue waters of Aurlandsfjord. Out on the water, you can breathe in the fresh air and soak up the peaceful stillness that makes this part of the world so special.

You’ll eventually enter Nærøyfjord, which, combined with Geirangerfjord, forms a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s the narrowest of the many branches of Sognefjord, and its steep-sided mountain slopes tower nearly 1,700 m (5,500 ft) over the water.

Your guide will tell you more about the formation of the fjords and point out waterfalls and small villages dotting the shoreline. You’ll also hear about the way of life in this region and the myths and legends that surround the fjordland.

As you return toward Flåm, your boat will dock part way along Aurlandsfjord. Here, you’ll head off on a hike into the hills, reaching a traditional Norwegian mountain farm. The owners will tell you about the heritage of traditional goat’s cheese production and give you a chance to taste some of the cheese they produce. You’ll then sit down to a homemade lunch featuring local ingredients, with views sweeping across the deep-blue fjord below.

After lunch, you’ll return to the valley and be driven the short distance back to Flåm.
