Surrounded by bucolic parks, leafy trees, and overlooking the Stockholm maritime inlet, Hotel Skeppsholmen is still just a short walk from the heart of a buzzing capital city. The 78 rooms boast classic 20th-century Swedish design, with white walls, pine floors, mid-century modern furniture and an airy feel, all housed in a beautifully preserved building that dates from 1699. Over its 300 years, the structure has served as a hospice and naval barracks for the Swedish Royal Marines.
This is also the home of Sweden’s oldest tennis court, built in 1882, which you can use during your stay if you fancy a set. Restaurant Långa Raden serves a menu that features contemporary Nordic cuisine, with a focus on fresh ingredients that have been simply prepared. The weekend brunch is particularly popular with locals.
We recommend this hotel if you’re looking for an excellent location rather than an indulgent stay. Just a short walk from the heart of the city, it’s surrounded by parks, giving it a quiet, secluded feel while still making an exceptional base for exploring the city and surrounding archipelago.

Rooms
The 78 rooms are spread over several categories, ranging from very small to comfortable. The decor reflects the minimalist esthetic of 20th-century Swedish design, with an airy feel thanks to bright white walls, pale pine flooring and touches of pale blue and chocolate brown. The furniture has the clean, horizontal lines and swooping curves that were exemplified by the mid-century Modern rooms. Many of the rooms face the waterfront, gardens or tennis courts and the suites are supplied with fresh flowers daily.
All rooms come with free Wi-Fi, air conditioning and TVs.
