The Gonville

The Gonville

Cambridge, The UK

Overlooking Parker’s Piece, the Gonville Hotel combines a convenient location with stylish decor, fine dining and a wellness spa. The sleekly tiled lobby is softened by the plush couches adorned with crushed-velvet pillows and welcoming seating areas.

Off the lobby is the chic Atrium Brasserie, with wood floors, greenery throughout, a high domed ceiling and olive, russet, blue and gray chairs to give the restaurant a greenhouse feel. The hotel is also home to the fine-dining restaurant Cotto, a long-time gastronomic destination in Cambridge, which is housed in a glassed-in terrace at the front of the hotel.

The rooms and suites have a bold style with patterned wallpaper, bright yellow and floral headboards, vintage posters and a mix of throw pillows in an array of hues and patterns. The rooms all feature a virtual concierge in the form of an iPad, and the Feature rooms boast complimentary cookies and handmade chocolates.

The leafy garden hosts open-air movie nights in warm weather and a small winter festival from mid-November through New Year’s Eve. Throughout the year the hotel offers complimentary tours of the city in one of their two vintage Bentleys, and bicycles are also available to explore the city.

OUR OPINION:

This is a well-located hotel with stylish details throughout, and we particularly love the garden with its fun summer and winter events.

The hotel’s main building is separated into two room types, Superior and Classic. Both offer similar facilities, though the Superior rooms are slightly larger and have a coffee maker. All Feature rooms have access to a private garden behind the villa.

All the rooms in both buildings include an iPad equipped with a virtual concierge service, Wi-Fi, air conditioning and en suite bathrooms.
