Cruise Ships in Alaska : Safari Explorer

If ever there was a vessel made for adventure, it’s the Safari Explorer. Lovingly nicknamed “the bulldog”, this 36-passenger small ship is elegant but also rugged enough to reach out-of-the-way locations for deep exploration. Whether you’re navigating Alaska’s least-visited shores or hopping between Hawaiian islands, the ship’s expert crew will take you to where the wildlife is abundant on any given day.

On board, the Safari Explorer has been designed for thrills over frills. Interactions with nature and your fellow explorers are at the heart of every voyage.

The ship is kitted out with kayaks, small boats, and hiking poles to facilitate your ocean and onshore escapades, which could include trekking beneath a glacier, skiffing in hidden coves, or snorkeling among giant Pacific manta rays. There are also hydrophones so you can listen to below-surface sounds.

The on-deck hot tub and menu of massage treatments are there to soothe the exertions of the day, and plenty of open spaces give you the best chances of sighting an orca, a bear, or a bald eagle.

The ship’s nature-based approach and small number of passengers result in a casual and decidedly exclusive experience. This quiet luxury translates across everything, from the in-suite decor to the warmth of the crew.

Dining is down-to-earth, too. Open seating and set eating times mean everyone gets to mingle over dishes inspired by, and sourced from, the places you visit.

Cabins

Sitting above deck, the staterooms are spread across six categories offering a mix of bed sizes and configurations. All are simply but comfortably designed, with heated bathroom tiles and picture windows. Some come with Jacuzzi baths, including the Commodore Suite, which also has a separate sitting area and private balcony.
