White Barn Inn, Auberge Resorts Collection

White Barn Inn, Auberge Resorts Collection

Kennebunkport, The US

The White Barn Inn is an award-winning hotel, spa and restaurant that has been a landmark in the Kennebunks for over 150 years.

Rustic country house chic has been paired with modern furnishings, delicate color palettes and wood-burning fireplaces to create a cozy, quintessential New England experience — and there's not a traditional frill in sight.

OUR OPINION:

A luxurious option in a wooded location with an excellent fine-dining restaurant. What we love most about the hotel is its luxury, but also its laid-back feel. Bikes, beach chairs and parking permits for nearby beaches are offered complimentary to all guests.

Rooms

There are guest rooms in the main inn and a number of more private cottages dotted around the property. Each comes with plush robes, flat-screen televisions and Molton Brown toiletries. The suites and cottages are much more spacious than the rooms, but also come with a price tag — they have fireplaces and spacious bathrooms and most have direct access to the heated swimming pool.

Location

White Barn Inn is located in the coastal town of Kennebunk, Maine, approximately 90 minutes' drive from Boston. There is a beach within walking distance and the many restaurants, galleries and shops of Kennebunkport are just a short drive away.

Food and drink

The White Barn Inn restaurant is not to be missed and offers an exceptional fine-dining menu. Incorporating New England favorites such as lobster and blueberries, each dish is beautifully presented and uses only the best ingredients in a rustic old barn setting. The restaurant also has a large viewing window at the back that overlooks a small garden, decorated to reflect the seasons as they change.

There is a small bistro that offers more casual dining with a more bar-style menu.

Breakfast is just what you would expect from a luxurious country inn; fresh pastry basket, organic farm-fresh eggs and freshly squeezed orange juice as well as hot beverages and an à la carte menu.

Facilities and activities

There are plenty of nearby beaches to explore just a short walk or drive away. The town of Kennebunkport offers a wealth of restaurants and shops and spending an afternoon perusing the store windows is a good way to soak up the laid-back atmosphere of this coastal Maine town.

The inn itself has a fully serviced spa and a heated swimming pool. They also offer a number of exclusive, private experiences including a cycling tour along wooded trails, cooking classes and wine and cheese pairing classes. The kitchen can also prepare a picnic basket for you to take with you to the beach.
