The delightful village of Manchester is located in the heart of the southern Green Mountains, at the foot of Mount Equinox, making it an excellent base for exploring southern Vermont.

Hildene near Manchester, VermontThis historic town has lots of revolutionary and pre-revolutionary history, and boasts some lovely old buildings that are a delight to stroll around. Visitors have been drawn to Manchester since the 19th century and President Lincoln's son, Robert Todd Lincoln, loved the area so much he chose to make it his home, building his country estate, Hildene, in the area in 1905.

This Georgian revival mansion is a beautiful place to visit in the summer months, boasting 24 rooms, filled with Lincoln family furniture and paintings, all set among beautiful gardens. Today, the village also offers a good selection of great value outlet shops. The nearby Batten Kill River, widely regarded as Vermont's best trout stream, offers plenty of outdoor activities, including white-water rafting and canoeing.

In addition, part of the Appalachian Trail, which runs from Georgia to Maine, passes east of Manchester, allowing visitors an opportunity to walk part of this grueling 3,380 kilometer trail.
