Lusaka is not one of Africa's most attractive cities but compared with others it has a relaxed air and people are generally friendly and laid back.
There are some wide avenues lined with jacarandas. These are particularly beautiful in September and October when the trees bloom and the pavements are carpeted in purple blossom.
Lumumba market
The main street in Lusaka is Cairo Road where there are numerous markets and bazaars. During the week the pavements are bursting with people and traffic is virtually at a standstill. East of the road, on Lumumba is Lusaka's biggest market. This is an interesting place to visit, however we recommend you take a local guide to advise you on prices and local customs.
Finally, a place well worth a visit is the Moore Pottery factory. On the Eastern side of Kabelenga Road, it has beautiful ceramics.
