A few miles off the northeast coast of Zanzibar Island, Mnemba Island is stunning.

Turtles of Mnemba Island

Sparkling white coral sand shelves into shallow turquoise waters. Waders step in the shallows, pink ghost crabs scuttle to and fro and green turtles nest at the top of the beach. Each time a turtle nests, the Mnemba lodge staff mark the spot with a 'due date'. Then, at the due date a close eye is kept on the nests and guests can watch the young turtles hatching and making their way to the sea.

Activities

The island is just a few kilometres in circumference and easy to walk around. It is very private and you can always find a deserted beach to sit on. There are coral reefs offshore which are perfect for snorkelling and diving on. It is a real Robinson Crusoe hideaway and the ultimate island to stay on.
