The 12,000 inhabitants of Cafayate live at around 1,600 meters above sea level in a city built by the Spanish that has now become the center of a large wine producing region.

Cafayate, ArgentinaThe foothills of the Andes provide not only fantastic drainage for wine production (particularly good for the Torrontes grape), but also the type of scenery that makes you stop and stare.

The town itself is perhaps not the most exciting, although at the weekends there is a fantastic fiesta atmosphere in the main square, however being here provides access to the Valles Calchaquíes which has to be one of the most spectacular sights in the world.

It is worth noting that many of the wineries require an appointment to be made before you can visit so please do let us know if there is a specific producer that you would like to see.
