On a tree-shrouded street across from the Old Botanical Garden, The Charles Hotel combines attentive service and a convenient location with luxe amenities like a Michelin-starred restaurant and a spa with the largest swimming pool in the city. The curved façade of the Art Deco building is carefully reflected in the decor, and the sofas are shaped to mirror the architecture.

Located in the Lenbach Gärten section of Munich, The Charles Hotel is in walking distance of shops and restaurants. It’s also a short walk to the train station, and a five- to ten-minute walk from Munich’s old town, making it a good base for your visit.

There are 136 rooms and suites, many of which have French balconies that open up to views of the leafy park.

There are a lot of things we like about this hotel, starting with its attentive service. It’s an elegant and stylish building, and we love the extensive spa and pool facilities.

The hotel has 136 rooms and suites that are all spacious, bright and decorated in a contemporary style with modern amenities like limestone bathrooms with heated floors and international plug adapters. Views range from Munich’s historical buildings to the Old Botanical Garden, and many rooms boast French balconies to take full advantage.

Options vary from the generously sized Classic Room to the opulent Monforte Royal Suite, with features like floor-to-ceiling windows, original Franz von Lenbach paintings and a grand piano in the sitting room.

Wi-Fi, air conditioning and en suite bathrooms come standard in all rooms and suites.

Location

The Charles Hotel is located on a quiet, leafy street west of Munich’s old town. It’s a short walk away from the train station, and about a five- to ten- minute walk from old town. You’ll also find many restaurants and shops within walking distance. 

Food and drink

  • Sophia’s Bar is a popular spot to mingle with locals and other guests while drinking cocktails. On Friday nights there’s live jazz music.
  • Sophia’s restaurant is Michelin starred, and offers fare inspired by the botanical garden, as well as by local and Asian dishes. There is also an outdoor terrace to eat on during the warmer months.
  • Afternoon tea is available in the library.
