Located on the edge of Rotterdam’s maritime museum waterfront, the modern Mainport Hotel styles itself as a gateway to the world, with direct access to the port and decor reflecting worldwide themes. The glassy, cubic design of the outside gives way to a nautical theme within, and its lobby sports a compass in the ceiling and an enormous map, once used for navigation at sea, on the wall.
From the glass elevators, you can see the old port and across the city skyline as you travel up and down the hotel’s floors. Each floor is decorated based on a different part of the world, with pale hues and snowflake motifs on one level, earth-toned patterns and safari animals on another. The rooms match the look of their floors, but all have dark wood furniture, large beds and floor-to-ceiling windows looking out on the water or the city.
The Restaurant Down Under serves an internationally-influenced menu, and shares a comfortable waterfront terrace with its bar, Cocktail bar on the Rocks. The hotel has its own spa on the eighth floor, plus a wellness club and pool shared with its sister property next door.
This hotel’s prime location in the heart of Rotterdam means it has easy access to the city’s plethora of museums. It’s set on the banks of the Maas, offering views over the ever-developing Rotterdam skyline.
