Perched on the shores of Sørfjorden, the Hotel Ullensvang is a relaxing retreat deep in the heart of fjord country. This historic hotel, located two and half hours east of Bergen, was built in 1846 and has been run by the same family for five generations, with an eye toward sustainability and respect for the dramatic surroundings.
The 170 rooms and suites are spacious and stylishly simple, many with balconies and all offering sweeping views over the fjords, Folgefonna Glacier or the Hardangervidda mountain plain. You can relax in the sauna or Jacuzzi, or take a dip in the indoor pool, which is connected by a long swimming channel to the outdoor fjord-side infinity pool.
The grounds are generous and well manicured, inviting long rambling walks, or you can take advantage of the many hikes and fjord cruises that the hotel offers. After a day out exploring, enjoy dinner and drinks in one of the hotel’s two restaurants and two bars.
We love this hotel as a place to unwind and explore the landscapes of Sørfjorden, and especially for the views over the water from Ullensvang Bath.
