The historic Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor was opened in 1932, and retains its old world charm in addition to having modern amenities. The welcoming doorman, Art Deco black and white-tiled hallways and original cage lift — still fully functional — add to the atmosphere of colonial grandeur.
Rooms are tastefully furnished in a way that captures the property's period architecture and Khmer influences, with dark wood floors, cane furniture and Cambodian objet d'art. Many of them face inwards to overlook the beautiful pool area, where you can enjoy a cocktail in the evenings after a day of exploring the temples. Alternatively, you can head inside to the renowned Elephant Bar. Afternoon tea is served overlooking the pool area should you prefer to take a break from exploring and avoid the midday heat.
A beautiful colonial hotel and Siem Reap landmark, the Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor offers a unique and relaxing stay. We find that the service, meals, and facilities are at a consistently high standard. We also love the doorman, who'll be dressed in a different coloured uniform for each day of the week.

Rooms
There are several types of rooms and suites to choose from, as well as private villas. Landmark Rooms are located in the original building and have a touch more charm than the entry-level State Rooms, which are found in the extended wing. However, both offer similar amenities, with king size or twin beds, private balconies (not included in all State Rooms), safes, minibars and cable TVs.
The property also offers several suite options, each of which is spacious with colonial or traditional Khmer decoration, with some designed to reflect the personalities of historical figures significant to the history of Angkor. All have a balcony or terrace, with the Cabana and Landmark Suites featuring 'his and her' bathrooms. Those looking for a more luxurious, spacious and private stay should consider the Two-Bedrooms Royal Villas — the master bedroom has a four-poster bed, while twin beds occupy the second bedroom, making this a great option for families. The Villas also have a large living room, a dining room with a pantry and a wine cellar.
Location
The hotel is situated across from the beautifully manicured Royal Gardens within the French Quarter of Siem Reap. It's also within a short tuk-tuk ride of the evening markets. If you walk away from the hotel toward the Royal Gardens, you’ll find plenty of local restaurant options as you near the centre of town.
Food and drink
Your stay includes an excellent champagne breakfast each morning in the Café d’Angkor. There are several other dining options to choose from for both lunch and dinner, with international and Khmer offerings. If you’re hoping for something lighter, you can enjoy appetisers by the pool. Be sure to sample something from the property's extensive wine cellar, and head to the Apsara Terrace to enjoy a delicious buffet meal while watching a Cambodian cultural performance — this should be booked in advance as sometimes the shows can fill up.
Families
There's a dedicated children's swimming pool on site, as well as children's menus at all of the restaurants. Cots can be added to the rooms, and a babysitting service is available. The Two-Bedrooms Royal Villas are particularly suited to families, offering additional space and amenities.
Facilities and activities
Guests can make use of the large pool, the spa and the fitness centre. The property's extensive tropical gardens are also worth exploring during your stay for a bit of peace and relaxation, with over 20,000 species of tropical plants growing in the grounds and exotic birdlife to be spotted.
