There are four accommodation categories here which offer varying levels of luxury. The en suite Sheikh tents and the walled sand house are for those who prefer their creature comforts. The camp also includes five Ameer tents, which, like the sand houses, offer a higher level of luxury including air conditioning, en suite facilities and an outdoor area with a private swimming pool.
As the sun sets, lamps light the pathway to the open-air dining area, which is traditionally decorated with large, comfortable cushions. Cool drinks and refreshing mint tea are served followed by a buffet consisting of traditional Middle Eastern salads and grilled meat. Breakfast is also a traditional affair and will most certainly keep the hunger pangs at bay until lunchtime.
The main highlight of any stay here is a trip to the top of the dunes just before sunset — the views and sunset hues can be stunning. Should you choose to watch the sunset from the top of one of the nearby dunes, note that the wind can be quite strong so please take extra care of your cameras, and be extra vigilant if you have small children with you.
We recommend that you take a small torch with you for use in the evenings. It's also advisable to pack what you need for the night into a smaller bag, leaving larger bags and suitcases in your vehicle. Please do not walk bare footed in the desert sands.
There are a number of activities that can be booked and paid for locally on arrival at the camp so do enquire about these at check in, as many will need to be booked in advance. There are a few adventurous activities available, including dune bashing, which may be operated by third parties. Please note, these activities have not been checked or experienced by Audley. Do also ensure your travel insurance covers you fully, before undertaking any adventure activities.
Another locally available activity is camel riding. Please be aware that camels can be unpredictable and accidents can happen. However, if safety precautions and common sense are used, most serious mishaps can be prevented. Should you choose to join a camel ride, please ensure your camel has a saddle and harness, and that you are wearing sensible shoes and sun protection. There are inherent risks involved in any activity which involves animals so it is very important that you are open and honest with your guide about your physical fitness, and you should always follow instructions carefully.
Note that alcohol is not available at Thousand Nights Camp but you are able to bring this in and drink it privately in your tent if you would like.
