Hotel Excelsior Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Built in 1913, Hotel Excelsior Dubrovnik has been welcoming guests for over 100 years and has become an iconic institution, hosting royalty from around the globe including Queen Elizabeth II. Located on the seafront to the east of Dubrovnik’s historic Old Town, it has views of both the city walls and Adriatic Sea and every part of the hotel is designed to focus attention on the panoramic vistas, with floor-to-ceiling windows, and bars and restaurants featuring outdoor terraces.

Rooms

The 139 rooms and 19 suites are divided between the original Villa Odak and the modern Tower addition. The Tower offers sleek contemporary interiors in warm neutral shades, with luxurious details such as oak flooring, power showers and hand-picked accessories. Villa Odak retains the classic style of the original hotel, with high ceilings, plush furnishings and marble-topped tables. Most of the hotel’s rooms are sea facing, with views of both Lokrum Island and the city walls, and some of the larger rooms have private balconies. Suites offer separate living areas, custom-crafted furniture and specially commissioned artwork, while the Presidential Suite has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living area and dining room. All guest rooms have modern amenities such as air conditioning, satellite TV, a minibar, luxury toiletries and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Location

In the southern part of Dubrovnik, just five minutes’ walk from the Old Town’s Ploče Gate, Hotel Excelsior is perfectly situated for exploring the historical sights of the town while also benefitting from external views of the city walls. The hotel is 27 km (14 miles) from Dubrovnik Airport.

Food and drink

Chef Petar Obad, a native of south Croatia, is in charge of both the hotel’s main restaurants. The indoor Sensus Restaurant has a fine-dining menu focusing on creative recipes and traditional Croatian ingredients, while Prora, located on a romantic terrace, serves Mediterranean-inspired lunch and dinner menus. Both offer a wide selection of Croatian wines. A lavish breakfast buffet is served outside at Restaurant Salin, while Abakus, a ground floor piano bar, also has an outdoor terrace and Old Town views.

Families

Interconnecting rooms are available, and extra beds can be provided for an additional fee.

Sunbeds or seating are available in several locations, including terraces, gardens and elegant lounges — all with a view.

The Old Town — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — offers a wealth of historic sites among its distinctive red-roofed houses.
