Growing up Brazilian, I was lucky enough to spend summers in Brazil, immersing myself in our rich culture firsthand. My curiosity about where my family came from was the spark that ignited my love for travel. A month living in Barcelona, blending into the rhythm of local life, led to a day trip to Portugal — a country I hadn’t expected to feel so connected to. Walking through Lisbon felt like coming home, even though I was worlds away.
From savoring chocolate in Belgium to wandering Rome's historic paths, I’ve explored Europe, but it’s Spain and Portugal that feel like my heart’s home. Each return visit has deepened my appreciation for the vibrant local experiences and hidden gems that make these places unforgettable. Joining Audley has allowed me to share these passions with others, helping travelers find their own moments of connection and wonder.

What's your most vivid travel moment?
Cruising down the Douro River on a warm afternoon, I felt completely alive. With a cool breeze in my hair and a glass of crisp wine in hand, I watched the hills of the Douro Valley unfold around me, their beauty almost surreal. The soft chirping of birds and the gentle splash as I dipped my hand into the water made the moment feel timeless. We capped off the day with a picnic at a nearby winery, savoring local flavors as the sun dipped low. It was a rare, pure connection to the landscape — a memory I’ll always treasure.
Which book, film or artwork captures Spain the most?
Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist tells the story of a Spanish shepherd seeking treasure, only to find it back home, symbolizing a journey of personal enlightenment. Though Brazilian, Coelho captures Spain’s spirit by weaving in themes of pilgrimage and self-discovery, echoing the country’s rich history and cultural blend of Muslim, Jewish, and Christian influences. This story of exploration and inner growth beautifully mirrors Spain’s own layered past, where journeys often lead back to one’s roots. For me, The Alchemist embodies the soul of Spain, highlighting how every adventure enriches and reshapes our understanding of “home.”
Your best piece of travel advice?
When visiting a new country, I always recommend skipping the restaurants near major tourist sites. After one less-than-great experience, I learned that the real flavors lie off the beaten path. Head into quieter neighborhoods and look for smaller, locally run spots. Not only will you discover authentic dishes that locals enjoy, but you’ll also get a deeper taste of the culture itself. These hidden gems often offer richer, more memorable meals that bring a destination to life in a way touristy places just can’t match.
