Furnirussi Tenuta

Furnirussi Tenuta

Puglia, Italy

Located in the heart of the largest fig plantation in Europe, Furnirussi Tenuta combines countryside tranquility with simple modern luxuries. The main building was once a private family home, but has now been expanded to accommodate the 24 room boutique property consisting entirely of junior suites and suites. Throughout the property clean lines and a tasteful minimalism is the preferred style. This creates a more modern feel than many of the property’s peers throughout the region, which focus on the rustic, historic nature of their structures for style inspiration. In the rooms and public areas at Furnirussi Tenuta, muted palettes of pale, neutral tones and angular furnishings coupled with spacious interiors create a bright, airy feel.

One of the biggest draws to the hotel is the massive swimming pool. A gentle gradient into the deeper sections of the pool and an irregular shape creates the feeling of a luxurious private oasis in the hotel’s gardens. There's a small spa under the main building as well as a fitness studio located in the garden between the rooms. The restaurant on site serves a continental breakfast in the mornings and lunch and dinner later in the day. All menu items promote the hotel’s culinary ethos focusing on locally sourced, seasonal ingredients, and of course, figs from the groves surrounding the property feature throughout the menu. A pool bar open in good weather meaning guests don’t need to stray from their loungers to order a light meal or a drink.

OUR OPINION:

We especially like Furnirussi Tenuta for those seeking a more contemporary option in Puglia with plenty of amenities. The pool is also one of the most enticing we’ve seen in the area.

Rooms

All of the 24 rooms in the hotel are considered either junior suites or suites. The style throughout the rooms is a stylish minimalism with an emphasis on tasteful simplicity. All rooms are spacious and bright featuring four-poster beds and plush sofas. The majority of the rooms are located on the ground floor with an outdoor garden and patio area for each room. The two suites are located on the floor above, and both feature a spacious outdoor terrace. All rooms come equipped with Wi-Fi and air conditioning.

Location

Located about 11 km (7 miles) inland from the town of Otranto, Furnirussi Tenuta is in the heart of the small region known as Grecia Salentina. Many of the locals in this region belong to an ethnic Greek minority and many elderly locals still speak the local dialect known as Greko that's derived from Greek. The historic town of Serrano is located close to the property, and is well worth a visit. Within this historic region, the hotel is peacefully situated within the largest organic fig plantation in Europe.

Food and drink

Focusing on local, seasonal ingredients, the restaurant, Il Ficheto, serves traditional Italian dishes in a picturesque setting. The outdoor dining area consists of a long stone-paved area which is sectioned off from the rest of the gardens by leafy vines and bamboo partitions. A continental breakfast is served in the same area. In good weather, a pool bar serves drinks and light meals in the gardens as well.

Facilities and activities

Perhaps the biggest draw in terms of facilities is the property’s massive swimming pool. Designed to recreate a natural lagoon, the pool features a gentle gradient into deeper areas, a natural, irregular shape, and plenty of loungers. There is also a fitness room with views into the gardens, and a small spa below the main building.
