Located within the ancient city walls and just a pleasant ten-minute stroll from the middle of Lecce in a quiet area of the city, La Fiermontina offers a modern, artistic take on a beautifully restored masseria (farmhouse). This wonderful boutique property offers just 18 rooms and suites but has plenty of space both indoors and outdoors. The hotel’s owner renovated the 17th-century building that houses the accommodation in homage to his grandmother who was an influential part of Paris’ art scene in the 1930s. Today the Fiermonte family’s private art collection is displayed throughout the property, complementing the clean lines, and carefully selected antique furniture in both the rooms and public spaces.

Rooms feature classic contemporary decor in neutral hues. In maintaining the structure of the original farmhouse, many rooms have high, vaulted ceilings which give them an open, airy feeling. Others have characterful wood beamed ceilings.

A spacious garden area surrounds the hotel with manicured lawns, neat rows of olive trees and even a small swimming pool — a rarity for a hotel in Lecce. The restaurant serves a more sophisticated take on traditional local dishes, and meals can be enjoyed in the main dining room, in the gardens or within the family’s unique private museum for a truly remarkable dining experience. The bar is an especially pleasant and characterful spot to enjoy a pre- or post-dinner drink.

OUR OPINION:

Rooms

With just 18 rooms, there is a calming boutique feel to La Fiermontina, and the rooms reflect this. All are decorated in a palette of neutral hues and, like the rest of the property, many display original works of art from the Fiermonte family’s collection. The original architecture of the 17th century masseria can be seen in the high, vaulted ceilings in some rooms. Others feature wood beamed ceilings which add a characterful touch to the muted tones of the room. Each room offers all the modern conveniences one would expect from a luxury hotel, including tablets to control room services and updated bathrooms.

Location

La Fiermontina is set within a quieter area of the city within Lecce’s city walls. The property is surrounded by beautiful gardens offering grassy areas, olive trees and citrus trees, which provide a relaxing place to sit outside and enjoy the sun. The main historic sights of Lecce can be reached in less than ten minutes on foot.

Food and drink

La Fiermontina’s restaurant offers a more elegant take on the traditional cuisine of Puglia. A daily menu focuses on fresh, local ingredients. The dining area covers both indoor and outdoor seating, and in good weather, dining in the gardens among the olive trees is especially charming. There is also an onsite bar, Bar Enzo, dedicated to Enzo Fiermonte, the owner’s uncle, who was a famous boxer who moved to the USA and became an actor.

Facilities and activities

The gardens house a small pool and large gardens which are a rarity in Lecce and a welcome feature in hot weather.
