Le Méridien

Chiang Rai, Thailand

Set in extensive landscaped grounds on the banks of the Mae Kok River just outside Chiang Rai, Le Méridien is a sleek and stylish resort that offers guests a wide range of facilities. Decor throughout is contemporary in style with chic furnishings, a palette of soothing grays and subtle elements of traditional Lanna architecture.

The 159 spacious rooms and suites are divided across five wings and all have their own balcony or terrace offering views of the river and mountains or manicured gardens and lake. The layout makes the most of the riverside location with a large pool, the spa and one of the hotel's restaurants offering waterside relaxation. The hotel has two main restaurants, Latest Recipe, which serves international dishes and impressive buffets, and the more rustic Favola with an Italian menu.

Families are well catered for with a lively kids' club and special activities for children such as Muay Thai and Thai dance lessons. The hotel also arranges a wide array of activities for adults such as yoga on the lawn, cultural immersion experiences and trekking and mountain biking in the surroundings hills.

The cultural treasures of Chiang Rai are just 10 minutes away by car.

Understated contemporary grandeur is the key element of the spacious rooms at Le Méridien. The urbane, pared-back decor features clean lines, designer touches and chic furnishings in a range of muted neutral tones. All rooms have a private terrace or balcony with views of the landscaped gardens, the river or the mountains beyond. Large, flat-screen TVs, Wi-Fi, air conditioning and bathrooms with separate bath and shower all come as standard. Bathrooms are designed so that you can enjoy sweeping views from your bath as well as your terrace or balcony.

Location

Le Méridien is located ten minutes' drive from central Chiang Rai and set in generous riverside gardens. A man-made lake, two century-old rain trees and views of the surrounding mountains give it a quiet, tranquil atmosphere. Chiang Rai airport is about 15 minutes' drive away and the Golden Triangle, where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet, is one hour away by car.

Food and drink

The main hotel restaurant, Latest Recipe, is set in a stylish lounge and serves a buffet breakfast and dinner by the open kitchen which allows guests to interact with the chefs. In addition, dishes can be ordered from an à la carte menu of international fare at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The riverside Favola restaurant is more rustic and serves dishes from an Italian menu, including specials from the wood-fired oven and grill. The hotel also has two bars and runs regular themed dining events ranging from Thai and Indian to seafood and barbecue nights.
