Six Senses Yao Noi

Six Senses Yao Noi

Phuket, Thailand

Koh Yao Noi is an unspoilt island in Thailand's Phang Nga Bay, just a 45-minute speedboat ride from Phuket. Here you find Six Senses Yao Noi, covering over 97,124 square meters of forested hillside on the southern coast, and offering breathtaking views of the spectacular limestone islands of the bay.

The resort is constructed of local woods, and the villas hide among the jungle, creating a very natural feel. The gorgeous bar and restaurant areas make the most of the views, and service is highly personal.

The resort is quiet and relaxing, with most people enjoying their villas, or out for the day doing activities.

OUR OPINION:

There is no better choice for couples looking for a romantic and very private island paradise in which to escape the crowds. Koh Yao is still blissfully underdeveloped, and the Six Senses brand provides every luxury with a unique blend of rustic charm and contemporary design.

Location

Koh Yao Noi is a quiet, relatively undeveloped island, which enjoys a stunning setting in picturesque Phang Nga Bay. It takes under 90 minutes to get there by car and speedboat from Phuket International Airport.

The hotel, has a small strip of white sand, and enjoys great views over the panoramic scenery of the bay. However, as all the villas have their own private pool, many of the guests spend most of their time enjoying the privacy of their own villa.

You can cycle around the island in a couple of hours, and there are local bars and restaurants to stop at on the way, as well as small shops from which to get supplies. If going out for dinner, the restaurants are about 15 minutes' drive by taxi.

Food and drink

There are several bars and restaurants at the resort, in lovely settings. The Hilltop Reserve, perched at the top of the resort, makes the most of the location, with truly breathtaking panoramic views out over the picturesque scenery of Phang Nga Bay. It serves light lunches and Thai dinners.

The Dining Room is open for dinner, and is set on the lower levels of the resort, tucked away among the trees, with several private dining pavilions and a chef's table.

The Living Room is the resort's main restaurant, and is open all day. It's the place for breakfast, and it is also next to the beach, so aside from having wonderful views, it's a handy place to grab a lunchtime bite. It's also open for dinner, and serves Thai and Western favorites.

The Den is great for a spot of relaxation, enjoying cocktails and Asian and Western tapas, sitting back on daybeds suspended from the ceiling, and admiring the bay views.

Facilities and activities

Every guest has access to their own guest experience maker (GEM) who will make sure they have an incredible stay and get the most out of their time at the Six Senses Yao Noi.

The spa village on site offers Thai inspired treatments on the tropical hillside with the sounds and scents of the jungle inspiring guests’ relaxation. There are also daily yoga classes on offer for the ultimate mind and body cleanse.

The hotel can organize several unique experiences in the area, one of the most popular is understandably a trip out to famed James Bond Island in Phang Nga Bay. Guests can be castaway for a tropical picnic, romantic lunch or sunrise breakfast on a remote beach of their choosing.

Scuba diving, kayaking, wakeboarding, waterskiing and wind surfing are all available for guests to experience in the bay. Chartering a yacht for an island-hopping tour around Pa Koh is a stunning way to explore the area.

Environmental and social responsibility

Six Senses Yao Noi's social and environmental program is developed in line with the Six Senses core purpose: 'to create innovative and enriching experiences in a sustainable environment'.

Sustainability has been on the agenda from the early stages of development, and many practices have been put in place to minimize negative impacts and embrace positive ones. This includes the installation of the resort's own water purification processor to help reduce the use of plastic bottles.

Local excursions

The hotel can arrange a wide range of experiences to help you discover more of your spectacular setting.

On water, island-hopping by long-tail boat or a barbecue on a secluded island beach are popular choices, as is exploring the mangroves by kayak.

On land, guided bike trails can take you off the beaten track, and the rock-climbing opportunities here are consistently rated as some of the best in the region. You could even try your hand at Thai boxing, known locally as Muay Thai.

Spa Facilities

Six Senses spas are always among the very best in the world, and the one at Yao Noi is no exception.

Modelled on a northern Thai village long house, and set in the forest, the spa offers a scenic, natural setting, and a choice of relaxing and revitalizing experiences. Skilled therapists pamper guests with a range of holistic wellness techniques and rejuvenating treatments, using only natural products.
