Go behind the scenes at the Outer Hebrides’ most famous gin and whisky distillery.
Basking in the warm glow of a roaring fire with a dram of local spirits in hand is a quintessential Scottish experience. And, at the Isle of Harris Distillery, you can go behind the scenes to discover more about its history and production process before doing just that.
This renowned distillery produces award-winning gin and complex, smoky whisky on the shores of East Loch Tarbert, in the heart of the Outer Hebrides. Voted Scotland’s top gin three years in a row in surveys by the Scottish Gin Society, its Isle of Harris gin is made with sugar kelp seaweed harvested by hand from nearby sea lochs.
On the tour, your guide will show you around the distillery and share the story of the company’s founding. You’ll also learn about gin- and whisky-making from start to finish as you see the process in action, before sampling a selection of the distillery’s spirits. This is a good opportunity to compare the tasting notes of the different whiskies and discern the influence of the ocean-inspired botanicals that give the gin its unique Hebridean twist.
We can arrange for you to join a small group tour or have a private experience. Both last about an hour and 15 minutes, and afterwards you can stay for longer and enjoy another drink by the fireside in the lounge.
