Southern Lakes Resort offers its guests the best of both worlds — traditional log cabins located in a beautiful lakeside setting, with modern furnishings and décor to ensure a cosy, comfortable stay. This year-round resort is set on a secluded lake, surrounded by mountains and forests ensuring a wild getaway.
Private cabins overlooking the lake make for a comfortable base after days exploring the Yukon, and the main lodge is inviting in the evenings for a hearty dinner overlooking the sparkling lake.
To fill your days, the resort has much to offer from hiking and kayaking in the summer, to snowmobiling and dog sledding in winter. At night, the sky is lit with the aurora borealis from mid-August to March.
With a personal cabin alongside plenty of activities and facilities at the main lodge, we think this resort is an excellent wilderness retreat without forgoing home comforts.

Rooms
The resort is made up of a collection of cabins placed far enough apart to maximise privacy, while still in close proximity to the main lodge. Each features a private deck to enjoy views of the lake and surrounding mountains and forests. Each of the comfortable cabins has a modern cabin design and features an en suite bathroom, a sitting area, and a heating stove. The deluxe villas have large windows to take in the views, and a larger living space. Some cabins also have a kitchenette.
Location
This resort is situated on the shores of Nares Lake in the southern area of the Yukon, close to the border with British Columbia. As this is a remote lodge, the nearest towns of Tagish and Carcross are about 30 minutes away, and Whitehorse a further hour.
Food and drink
Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the restaurant serves fresh and seasonal creations inspired by the local region of the headwaters of the Yukon River. The lakeside setting makes for an excellent view while enjoying your meal. Particular staples are homemade burgers and freshly grilled steaks. If the weather allows, you could enjoy a drink on the sunny patio overlooking the lake.
Facilities and activities
With its secluded waterfront location, an array of activities are on offer at the resort throughout the year. From guided ATV tours through the forest and wide-open areas, to hiking the extensive trail system, to taking a gentle paddle on the lake in a canoe. There are many ways to immerse yourself in the wilderness and fresh air here. Fishing tours are also offered.
In the winter, the landscape is transformed, and you can venture onto the lake by snowshoe, pulled on a sled by a team of huskies, or even on a snowmobile. At night, watch the sky come alive with the aurora borealis.
