In a town where boutique hotels are difficult to find, Nayara Gardens is something of an oasis. Individual casitas — elegantly furnished stand-alone bungalows — are dotted around lush tropical grounds connected by a series of pathways, offering a private, secluded feel.
Facilities such as the hotel’s swimming pool, restaurants and spa are all of a high standard and the hotel wins regular awards for the level of service it provides. The property's natural surroundings attract a wealth of wildlife, while the Arenal Volcano towers majestically in the distance.
This chic and luxurious hotel wins regular awards for good reason — we think there are few better options in Arenal if you're looking for boutique luxury and a more intimate atmosphere.

Rooms
Accommodation is split into three categories: Deluxe Casitas, a Nayara Suite and Springs Villas. The casitas are elegantly furnished with dark polished woods and are separated by tropical vegetation with their own small private gardens and outdoor showers. They also feature a wrap-around terrace with a Jacuzzi and hammock, free Wi-Fi and international calls, a flat-screen TV, minibar and coffee making facilities. The more spacious Nayara Suite is octagonal in shape and offers a private, romantic retreat, with its wrap-around balcony having the advantage of a less-obstructed view of the rainforest and volcano when the weather's clear.
The adults-only Springs Villas are the most luxurious option, boasting their own private plunge pools which are fed by natural hot springs, a complimentary minibar and a spacious living area. Guests staying in the villas also have access to exclusive tours and spa treatments and can make use of the complimentary laundry service and yoga sessions, among other benefits.
Location
Nayara Gardens is situated between the town of La Fortuna and the Arenal Volcano National Park. All tour companies collect from the hotel for group and private excursions, and it's a four-mile taxi journey into the town should you wish to try some different bars or restaurants.
Food and drink
The hotel’s main restaurant opens for breakfast, lunch and dinner and serves imaginative local and international dishes (including some wonderful ceviche). A second restaurant opens for lunch and dinner and specialises in Asian/Latin fusion cuisine, while the poolside bar also serves light meals. The wine and tapas bar opens in the evenings and is a relaxing alternative for dinner and drinks.
Honeymooners
The resort makes an indulgent and romantic place for a honeymoon and offers a number of benefits for couples, including special spa experiences, private dinners and guided walks. The Springs Villas are particularly well-suited to couples, located in an adults-only area with their own spring-fed plunge pools.
Facilities and activities
Leisure facilities at the Nayara Gardens include an outdoor pool complete with swim-up bar, which is a great place to relax and take in the spectacular views on a clear day. There's a small gym on site if you're feeling more active; alternatively, relax in the hillside spa, which overlooks the forest and offers a variety of treatments and combination therapies.
Environmental and social responsibility
Nayara Gardens has a number of measures in place to promote sustainability and to ensure minimal impact on the environment. The property has been built using local materials that support Costa Rica's economy and protect its environment, and natural light is optimised to lessen the need for electric lighting. Showers and toilets are designed to save water, cleaning products are biodegradable and non-toxic, and composting takes place to reduce waste. The property is also involved in supporting the local community, employing local people and helping with their transport, including their children's transport to and from school.
