Bellevue Syrene 1820

Bellevue Syrene 1820

Sorrento, Italy

Mediterranean sophistication meets Roman and Pompeian heritage at the Bellevue Syrene. As one of the oldest hotels in Sorrento, built in 1820, the Bellevue is an institution and lives up to its reputation and affiliation with the Relais & Chateaux collection of hotels.

It boasts spectacular views from the terraces and an elevator down to a private jetty on the seafront for sunbathing away from the crowds, with a bar at your disposal. Italian contemporary artists bring the hotel to life with vibrant statues and large statement chandeliers. Sunlight pours into every room, making this a pleasant yet stately home from which to explore the area.

OUR OPINION:

Not only does this hotel feel like a historic landmark on the Sorrentine coastline, but it sets the bar for individual style and elegant modern design. A memorable stay for any guest.

Rooms

All rooms and suites exude the elegance of a Roman palace and have views of the sea, many from their private balconies or terraces. The interior design is refreshingly modern; you can expect clean lines, lots of natural light and chic furnishings with expertly chosen antique furniture, artwork, statues and frescoes. The large, ornate chandeliers, some of which are cast from Murano glass, draw the eye, along with the bright, white walls hung with modern art. The bathrooms are a sight to behold with large tubs and walk-in showers.

Location

With sweeping views of the Bay of Naples, the Bellevue Syrene has a peaceful coastal location while still being in the heart of Sorrento. You can reach the main Piazza Tasso and old cobbled streets of Sorrento in under ten minutes’ walk. From the dock below the hotel, a 30-minute ride by ferry, private boat or hydrofoil takes you to Capri or the much photographed Positano.

Food and drink

The à la carte restaurant, Mimmo Jodice, is open to both guests and visitors and offers gourmet dining with a view. The terrace is a peaceful spot for a quiet sunset drink. The club lounge, open to hotel guests, serves a complimentary buffet of snacks and soft and alcoholic drinks, replenished throughout the day.

Facilities and activities

For swimming, the Bellevue Syrene has a small, inviting, mosaicked pool. The private seaside jetty and bar is accessible by the hotel’s elevator, a rare privilege within the bay of Sorrento. There’s also a Turkish hammam and a wellness spa where you can unwind with private massages and treatments.
