With sweeping views across the Bay of Naples toward Mount Vesuvius and the islands of Ischia and Procida beyond, the hotel’s main highlight is the view from its magnificent stone terrace.
The Excelsior Vittoria has direct access on to the main Piazza Tasso as well as a private elevator down to the port. The grounds of this historic hotel stretch across five acres and are composed of three old buildings. There is a beautiful music room, conservatory or winter garden and many intimate, little living rooms.
The Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria is every bit as historic and luxurious as it proclaims to be, with an unrivalled central location and a grandeur that isn’t overbearing.

Rooms
The rooms and suites have a history of significant visitors, playing host to the likes of Oscar Wilde and Richard Wagner. They maintain their 1930s style with elegant, frescoed high ceilings, antique furniture, chandeliers and wooden parquet floors. The bathrooms are equally grand with spacious walk-in showers or large bathtubs. Both adjoining and interconnecting rooms are available, making this a great choice for families. From the junior suite category and above, the minibar is complimentary. For those who prefer modern, contemporary rooms, but with the same antique furniture, these are available on request.
Location
Throughout the spacious gardens that surround the property you’ll find private access ways into the city, most notably of which is the gate to the Piazza Tasso. There’s also a private elevator down to the port. Here, you can catch a boat to Capri island or the hillside town of Positano, both of which are under 30 minutes away.
Food and drink
The Terrazza Bosquet restaurant offers Michelin starred Italian and Mediterranean cuisine, using fresh, local produce, some of which is picked from the grounds. For a more relaxed experience, try the Orangerie which serves delicious pizzas, rustic dishes and light, poolside meals. Breakfast is a generous American buffet, served in the grand Sala Vittoria under an original frescoed ceiling, also open for lunch and dinner.
Facilities and activities
Spa La Serra offers a wide range of massages and treatments which must be booked in advance. There’s also a comprehensive fitness suite, tranquil citrus gardens and large swimming pool.
