Masseria San Domenico

Masseria San Domenico

Fasano, Italy

Set about ten minutes walk inland from the Adriatic Sea, down a quiet road, sits the impressive white stone structure of the Masseria San Domenico. The history of the property dates originally to the 14th century, and the rich history is evident throughout the grounds and buildings. The structure that stands today dates to the early 19th, and is surrounded by countryside. The verdant gardens immediately surrounding the main buildings of the hotel feature freshly-trimmed lawns with olive trees and swaying palms. Bright purple and pink bougainvillea drapes over white walls throughout the property, giving a delicate floral scent to the air.

Inside, antiques and oriental rugs create a classic, elegant style, fitting of the masseria’s history. Rooms are all spacious and decorated in a similarly elegant style.

Throughout the property, facilities are set up to encourage a relaxing stay while also offering plenty of activities. A huge saltwater pool in the gardens is surrounded by natural rocky features, comfortable sunloungers and a poolside bar and restaurant. A fully equipped spa offers a range of treatments focusing on the therapeutic benefits of the local sea water and products created from the olive trees on the grounds. A number of restaurants, an 18 hole golf course, and access to two beaches provide guests with plenty to keep busy during their stay.

OUR OPINION:

The expansive grounds and plentiful facilities of Masseria San Domenico make this a hotel we love. Couple this with the location near the beach and the elegant style of the hotel, and we’ve found this to be an excellent choice for those seeking luxury and relaxation.

Rooms

All of the 40 rooms and suites are spacious and elegantly decorated. Even the smallest rooms allow room for a seating area with a sofa which creates a pleasant spot for relaxing. Antiques lend characterful charm and wrought iron headboards top bedspreads accented with pops of burgundy, saffron, or indigo. Smooth ivory hued walls and drapes keep interiors feeling bright and sunny. Many rooms offer views onto the gardens.

Location

Located between the towns of Bari and Brindisi near the small town of Savelletri, Masseria San Domenico sits at the end of a quiet road a ten-minute walk inland from the coast. The countryside surrounding the property is typical of the area with ancient olive trees and aloe plants extending to the sea.

Food and drink

Three restaurants and two bars provide guests with plenty of dining options. The three restaurants all focus on fresh local cuisine. One is located outside beside the pool, another right on the sea, and the third in a beautiful dining room with vaulted stone ceilings which dates to the 18th century. The main bar features an inviting fireplace and plush sofas, while a pool bar allows guests to order refreshments without leaving their sunloungers.

Facilities and activities

Two nearby beaches are available to guests. One is split between a small sandy section and a bathing platform section with loungers, and the other larger beach is shared with the hotels’ sister property nearby. For those who prefer the pool, a huge outdoor saltwater pool surrounded by natural features is available, as well as a lovely bright indoor pool, located in the spa under a glass sunroof. Guests can also take advantage of the beautiful spa which focuses on thalassotherapy, using the healing benefits of seawater, and products produced from the olive oil from the property’s own olive trees. An 18 hole golf course with sea views is also available to guests.
