Broad Bay House

The Outer Hebrides, The UK

Located just a few miles north of Stornoway overlooking the east coast of Lewis, lies Broad Bay House  a modern and welcoming bed and breakfast. With sweeping views of Gress Beach and, on a clear day, the Scottish Highlands, this property is a beautiful haven and ideal base for exploring the island.

The four spacious and peaceful bedrooms have been thoughtfully decorated to a modern standard, incorporating traditional Scottish elements. Modern amenities, high-quality linens and premium toiletries make Broad Bay House a home away from home, and the warm hospitality from the husband-and-wife owners mean everything is taken care of.

The heart of the house is the dining and lounge area, situated toward the back of the property. This intimate and snug space has comfortable seating, a log burner, and bar, creating the perfect spot to take refuge after a day exploring the wild landscapes of the Outer Hebrides. With floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the ocean, the island’s ever-changing scenery is never out of sight. Breakfast and dinner are served in the same space, and complimentary tea and cake can be enjoyed during afternoon check-ins.

OUR OPINION:

With its relaxed and warm atmosphere, Broad Bay House feels like home away from home. With its intimate setting and views of the beach beyond, we think it is a great option for exploring the Isles of Lewis & Harris.

Rooms

This well-appointed property has just four spacious bedrooms, allowing attention to detail to be at the heart of service. Each room is individually decorated with soothing, neutral tones that echo the natural beauty of the Outer Hebrides. While the décor is understated, each room offers a modern ensuite bathroom as well as a private terrace, one of which also offers a view of the beach. Other amenities include a smart TV, Nespresso coffee machine, complimentary snacks and luxury bathroom toiletries.

Location

Although its immediate surroundings feel somewhat remote, Broad Bay House is well placed to explore the islands, with the lively Stornoway only a 15-minute drive away. With its idyllic coastal location, it is also well placed to access Gress Beach, with a private walkway from the property leading down to the white sands.

Food and drink

Breakfast and dinner are cooked inhouse and served in the lounge and bar area, offering hearty and comforting dishes using fresh and local ingredients. Evening dining changes depending on the day of the week, and either consists of traditional seafood platters or a set three-course meal. All food is seasonally prepared, which can be accompanied with drinks from their extensive wine, gin or whisky list.

Due to the size of the property, dinners are served on select days of the week, but the owners are more than happy to help secure reservations in restaurants across the island.

Families

Due to the intimate nature of this property, the property cannot offer family rooms so this is not the most suitable option for families with younger children. Two of the rooms can be twinned, however this is only suitable for older children or teenagers.

Accessibility

All of the property is on a ground floor level, including the rooms.
