Langass Lodge

Langass Lodge

The Outer Hebrides, The UK

Nestled among hills on the remote island of North Uist, Langass Lodge puts you in a convenient location for exploring the white-sand beaches, rolling moorland hills, and extensive birdlife of the Outer Hebrides.

Originally built in the 1880s, this former sporting lodge has been thoughtfully renovated and extended in a way that makes the most of the location while preserving its original charm. Rooms are spread across the main lodge and a hillside extension, and offer plenty of space to relax in alongside views over the sea loch to Skye.

You’ll find many nods to Highlands’ heritage here too, from the tweed and tartan soft furnishings, island-made pottery, and Hebridean landscapes painted by regional artists, to the restaurant’s modern Scottish dishes crafted from local ingredients. Game and seafood are sourced from North Uist’s hills, lochs, and shores, with the owners — a husband-and-wife team — personally foraging for scallops, cockles, and mussels.

The lodge sits in its own extensive grounds that are scattered with hiking trails leading to a stone circle, loch, forests, moors, and long sandy beaches backed by machair grasses.

OUR OPINION:

We love the airy, comfortable rooms with their stylish nods to the Highlands and views of the sea loch and surrounding hills. The grounds have some lovely walking trails, and the lodge is a convenient base for exploring the island.

Rooms

Langass Lodge offers a selection of rooms spread across the main building and a newer development built into the hillside. All are beautifully appointed, with views over the sea loch to north Uist’s largest hill and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.

The decor is traditional with modern touches, fusing rich jewel-hued tweeds and tartans with the whitest bed linens and wooden floors. Some rooms come with French doors leading onto the gardens, many have oversize bathtubs, and one retains the original style of the old sporting lodge with its dark-wood walls. All showcase pottery and paintings crafted by local artists.

Location

Among the most northerly hotels in the Uists, Langass Lodge puts you in the heart of the Outer Hebrides, making it easy to explore the island and nearby Isle of Harris. Just a short drive away, you’ll find a distillery, stables from where you can take horses for a ride along the beach, and Lochmeddy ferry port with its marina and arts hub.
